Is a 140G too small for a 6’2, 230lb beginner adult? I’m looking at klx 140g, ttr230, crf230f/250f- for beginner trail riding. Northern California used market is rough for green sticker bikes right now. Any opinions appreciated.

GlennF. Posted May 18, 2008. If seat height is your first issue, the KLX250 and the WR250R are about the same. The XT250 is quite a bit lower. The KLX is more choked down stock than the WR but both bikes have better off road suspension than the XT. The XT can be modified the same way as the prior model XT225 for more power.

The Honda CRF300L offers ABS as an option; the KLX300 does not. ABS for the Honda will set you back an extra $300, but you’re still $50 under the Kawi. However, you get two color choices with the KLX—traditional Kawasaki Lime green and Fragment Camo gray. The Camo version costs $200 more than the simple green version.
Currently the front forks are raised about .25" with the ability to go to approximately 1" before hitting the bottom of the bars. The rear sag is about 3.75" with rider on. The front compression is set at 8 clicks in and the rear is 12 clicks in. The rebound damping is set at 14 clicks in.
KLX's are great machines, a few buddies of mine have them. In stock trim, the DR's power wins hands down. But once you big bore a KLX and tune the suspension a bit, It wins in every department. As far as reliability, both bikes are proven machines. Crashablity, the DR takes the cake with no radiators and water pump covers to bust.
The new price on the klx, water cooling, and a 6 speed transmission are kind of hard to pass up. It actually isn't all that much heavier than a Honda that has dropped a gear. When the klx 300 came out I was already xr "heavy" and swallowed hard and admitted to myself that it was more my type of bike than my xr was. I still have a 250xr, great
